I’ve been looking through everyones cute bunny room photos and I feel bad because my bunnies have a 2’x4′ cage that they spend most of their day in until I ger back from school and let them hop around my room. They don’t use their litter box very well so it kinda sucks to have to pick up after them in their cage and in my room… I was just wondering how many people have a Bunny Room and who is like me, and what is better…Ahhh!

Not everyone has a dedicated bunny room. We have a teeny tiny house and while we call it “the bunny room”, it’s actually the “bunny room/office”. I actually prefer having rabbits in common living areas (living room, family room, kitchen, dining room, etc) so they get a lot of interaction from everyone in the family.

Couple questions for you… You mention “bunnies”… How many do you have? Are they in separate cages? One 2×4 cage is not big enough for two (or more) bunnies. Each bun needs a minimum of 2×4 feet.

You mention poor litter habits… Are both buns spay/neutered?

You need to give them the best you can based on your situation. Chances are, things aren’t permanent. You life will change, jobs, houses, etc. will all most likely change one day.   I can’t have a bunny room or even bring my bun into the main part of the house because we have an aggressive dog.  I have built him a 6×8 pen using Nic grids and he is in the basement living room. I spend most of my days/nights down there with him when I’m not working.  I can’t give him the whole basement because most of it is storage and not safe for him.  Are they fixed yet? I can’t remember based on your other posts.  If they aren’t, then litter habits should improve once they are.  There are many members who have bunny rooms. There are many members whose buns are free-range 24-7 and there are many members who are like you and have limited space.  As long as they are getting a few hours of time out of their cage and lots of interaction with you then they will be just fine until things are able to change.  Is there a way you could increase their cage size or build a pen as a cage instead? That way when you are gone they still have more space? This is what my bun’s home looks like:

Beka, I have 2 and when we adopted them from the rescue, we bought the cage with them and the woman said a pair could live together in a 2’x4’x2′ but I would totally consider getting another cage. They are both neutered males, but they have been together for 4 years. I have a pen like Kbana that I use sometimes, so maybe I could leave them out in that during the day? But they are pretty good at pushing against the edges to escape… I want to work my bunnies into a “bunny room” situation, so they can have lots of playtime, but idk what to do about their litterbox problems… Thanks!

I have my buns locked away only for night time, but they have 2 cages ontop of eachother which I transformed into a double decker pad with a ramp for them. They’re pretty happy in there, and other than that have the rest of my fairly small room to themselves plenty of toys, and each other to play with, though! x

At the moment I have 2 bunny rooms. I got my second bunny Kilala and being  my rabbits weren’t bonded yet they have been living separately. Most of the time I have had kilala she was living with a cage with an expen attached however my son recently moved out so I moved her in his old room. She really likes it in there. She will be moving in with Usagi once they are boned. I am fortunate to have a room for my bunnies to live in. It was one of my deciding factors on getting rabbits. These are my first rabbits. I knew I had the room for them. They do get visits to the living room in the evenings. As far as your question is having a bunny room better I don’t know. You just have to deal with the space you have.  In my experience with Kilala she is happier in her new space.Of course all rabbits would be happy with more space.  She also isn’t completely litter trained either so I am cleaning up after her in her room just like when she was penned up. She is now spayed so I am hoping that will improve.

Here is what I did to my closet so my bunnies could have a little more space during the day. I put a fence thing around the closet and their cage so they have the cage the closet and a little bit of extra space to hang out in.

I had a bunny room for the past year and a half and I actually wasn’t such a big fan. They had tons of space to free range in, but I just didn’t feel they got enough interaction. I still went in and spent a lot of time with them, but I had to stop everything I was doing to go in there, so it was pretty inconvenient. I just moved to a smaller place last week, so their xpen is in now in the living room and they’re loose when I’m home. I think they’re enjoying it a lot more, now that they’re a part of everything again.

My Dizzie has her own room because she is bunny aggressive and certain people aggressive (she severely dislikes her grandma!?!?! what!?!?!) She has lots of toys and hidey houses in there so she is never bored during the day while I am at work. When I am home, I let her out of her room and she runs around her room, the hallway and the diving room…sometimes she even sneaks into the office and sunroom. I have 2 boys also that have the run of the living room when I am home. They are seperated by baby gates so my Dizzie doesnt hurt my boys, but they can see, smell and interact with each other Some people think I am nuts for giving Dizzie her own room, but it makes me and HER feel good, so why not!?!

My boy Henry has a bunny room – ‘my house’! Sorry… ‘his’ house! OMG if I could take a photo and upload it? Henry is laying fully stretched out with a tummy full of veg, like a king of my (sorry, ‘his’) castle.
But lets be realistic, some will agree, others won’t – Henry’s house (his water and toilet) is set up in our dining room, but he is free range 24/7. Our house is not huge – it just gives him the opportunity to move from room to room as we do cause even though he is a hands off bun, I know he still loves us and adores our company. But that is Henry and us (sucker’s!). Other’s can’t do that for whatever reason, and just do what they can with what they have available to them. Who cares – they love their buns as much as I love my Henry and that’s all that matters! Give your babies all that you can (and I’m sure you’ve already done that) love and adore them, and your doing well! (Between you and me…. your pictures look amazing! I’m not showing Henry…..). You are doing fantastic! If you can let your buns free range – that would be awesome, but just do the best that you can under the circumstance and make up the difference with lots of love and kisses. Who doesn’t love a kiss?!

Tonks, have you considered building a condo? I have six rabbits and live in a one-bedroom condo so boy have they taken over the house! We don’t have a dedicated room but before they lived in the dining room and they have since moved to the bedroom (just recently)! Mine live in double x-pens put together but before we switched to x-pens because of the number of buns we have, we did a three-level condo. And then let them out for hours while we were home during the day or at night (at the time I had a different job so it was very random when they were out). When space is limited it’s great to build up. I actually used the bottom of their previous cage for the flooring on the condo and then used the NIC cubes to build up and added two extra levels made with wood and dowels. A LOT of people have used them – and if you look in the Habitat section of the “Bunny Info” tab, you’ll be able to see a ton of great ones!
