He recently got neutered and he is 4 months old. His litter habits have been.. alright. He will always go #1 in his litter box, but will go #2 where its convenient for him. He will get just about 60% of his #2s in his litterbox, but he will always have alot all over the place too. I am just entirely unsure of what to do.. :/ I thought getting him neutered would help the situation. I have tried putting some of his #2s in his litterbox when I clean it but nothing is working. Any suggestions? I am afraid of letting him out more if he is just going to go all over it. :/ I want him to start using his litter box so I can let him full roam in my room.

How long ago was he neutered? It takes about 4-6 weeks for hormones to dissipate after neutering. During that time sometimes behavior actually gets worse because their hormone levels are fluctuating. It’s frustrating but usually very temporary.

Oh okay thankyou soo much! He was neutered two weeks ago. I hope that is the case and that it will get better again, thank you!

Just make sure you clean his accidents up very well with vinegar and redirect any other bad behaviors he may be displaying. You don’t want them to become habits in the time it takes his hormones to die down. Powder experienced a hormonal surge as well and he became a monster rabbit, destroying all in sight and being a total terror.. I felt like my four year old calm, mellow rabbit had been body snatched and I had a teenager instead. He went back to normal after a few weeks.

Alright. I have tried clapping, and LOUDLY saying “no,” and he doesn’t respond to that. I have tried a squirt of water, (which seems to be the best method for him understanding) but I also do not want to hurt him. I don’t squirt him in the face, but just a couple on the back since a single squirt doesnt seem to give him a hint. Does this hurt him in any way? If so, what are some other ways of showing him it is bad?

If all of the pee is in the litter box, and about 80-90% of the poops, that is considered litter box trained. Some rabbits will always drop poops as a way to mark territory. Increasing his space may actually help him to get the marking out of his system.

He’s not really going to understand you punishing him for pooping. Just pick it up, put it in his litter box and spritz a little vinegar onto the area. If he has other bad habits, like chewing, just say “no” and redirect to something appropriate. IE: He’s digging carpet, say no and redirect to a diggy box.

Oh okay. Yea, that does make sense. Thankyou.
