So as you know, my wee brother buns – Beau & Simba – had begun fighting a couple of weeks ago. Well, BEAU started fighting. Poor Simba just defended himself! So I separated them and alternated free run time hoping to suffer thru until they could both be neutered and then rebonded. What a nightmare. Beau was always the dominant boy and I think that he went from “I am the boss of you, little brother!” To “I am the owner of this entire house and I won’t rest until you are gone or dead!” Simba would spend his “out” time doing his usual lounging, binkying and investigating, while Beau spent his time trying to get into Simba’s cage to murder him. Peeing and pooping all around the outside of Simbas cage the whole time. Fun. Since it would be weeks til he could be neutered, and he was CLEARLY very upset and frustrated every minute of every day, we reluctantly decided to rehome Beau. I was very upfront with all inquirers and made sure they had good bunny experience and even tried my best to scare folks away with honesty about the responsibilities and costs of rabbit care. We finally found a super sweet young couple with past bunny experience who fell in love with Beau. They wrote the next day that all was well and they had renamed him “Thor”. Lol! I think it fits! Simba remains his lazy, sweet, relaxed self and life is good. Though I really miss seeing the boys snuggling. I feel like we made the best choice under the circumstances for both our sanity and the health and happiness of the boys. And at only 10 weeks old, Beau, sorry – Thor – is still young enough to adapt to his new home. But I miss him.

Oh Cheri, I’m sure that was hard and of course you miss him. You needed to do what was best for you and your family and “Thor.”. As much as I want to get another bun for my AL, I know that deep down I wouldn’t be able to handle the bonding experience. Maybe one day but not now. I think single buns are perfectly happy and I have no doubt that Simba is really happy and loved. Now you can relax and enjoy Simba without stress or worry. I am so happy you found loving new owners and that they also updated you. Such a sense of peace of mind I’m sure. Sometimes we need to make the hardest decisions for the sake of our animals. xo

Oh no Cheri! Last I had heard, you were just going to house them separately until they were neutered. I’m sorry the situation was so bad that you felt it was necessary to rehome him. =( Perhaps once Simba is neutered, you can look into getting him a new friend. I hope Beau does well in his new home. Perhaps he is just meant to be an only-bun.

Cheri- that must have been heartbreaking. I am so sorry- but also so glad that you found Beau (Thor) a happy family!
Wishing you and Simba much peace and binkying!

                Thank you guys.
Simba does indeed seem to be very happy as an only bun (with step-kitty and doggy siblings). Thanks for not making me feel bad. (You couldn’t make me feel worse anyway!). Thor (Lol! I still laugh to think of that widdle baby bunny face as “THOR”!) is happy too, so I will try not to beat myself up too much.

Sounds like you did the right thing for your buns. Don’t feel badly- you acted in everyone’s best interest!

Some bunnies just do better on their own, just like any other animal. He can now be the boss bunny all he likes. Sorry you had to rehome him, but at least you know he is happy.
