        Hello

I’m having never ending trouble with my rabbits atm. All 3 were neutered almost exactly a month ago, and before then their litter habits weren’t perfect, but not bad (they always peed in the box but there was the odd poop on the floor), excluding when they got up on my bed where they just peed and pooped EVERYWHERE. Now after having them neutered almost a month ago their habits have gone all over the place, they still mostly pee in the boxes but now poo allll over the floor. On top of this their behaviour has changed – they aren’t aggressive but they definitely nip more.

The main problem I’m having now is that they wake up every morning at 3-4am and start going mental on the cages of their pen. Rufus especially will dig and dig and dig and bite the wires until we either feed up to shut him up (although he goes straight back once he’s finished) or he’s been let out. Ideally I would love to let them out because they like to flop all over my bed, but I just can’t when they’re going to the loo all over it. I’ve already been through 4 pillows, 2 duvets, 1 blanket and 2 mattress toppers. My boyfriend and I are at our wits end when it comes to being woken up, there is literally no way of shutting them up properly and the noise is so loud that my mum often hears and complains too.

So yeah – I need HELP! here are some pictures of their pen – sorry it’s so disgusting – i’ve been out at work all day

As you can see I have floorboards so when they pull at the cage it rattles insanely loudly. We’ve tried putting towels etc underneath so there’s no contact with the floor but the cage itself still makes a racket. We’ve also tried attaching some cardboard against the wires but because the whole thing still shakes the cage still rattles.

So does anyone have any ideas as for ways of soundproofing this? I’m no where near imaginative enough to think of anything else.

Also have any of you had this problem? Do you know any ways to stop it? Both the pulling at the cage and the peeing on my bed. I thought neutering would improve their habits but they’re just worse now, and I’m getting desperate

        Thanks in advance

Not sure you can do this with your floors, but maybe you can buy some linoleum sheeting instead. My bun would constantly pull at his pen. I attached zip ties around the bottom perimeter and then hot glued the zip ties to the floor. Now, my floor is linoleum so when I want to remove it I just need to peel it off…that is why I thought about putting linoleum over your wood floors instead. He can’t move it now. It does still rattle a bit but nothing like it used to. Not sure about the litter training though. I’m sorry. The only thing I can think is that their hormones haven’t died down yet?

Hmm, that could work I suppose. I could buy some cheap lino, thanks for the suggestion!

But yeah – i’m praying those other behaviours are from a hormone surge and I just need to give it another couple of weeks.

Last night I kept a pot of water by my bed and every time Rufus went for the cage I sprinkled some water on his face, at which point he runs off immediately to dry himself. I’m hoping if I keep that up it should deter him in the future, since atm he still keeps coming back to do it but will stop every time I flick water at him. We’ll see…

The pooping and other weried behaviors my be do to there hormones being messed, give them sometime to calm down and it should go back to normal or even better.

I think the water idea you have might work (crossing my fingers for you!)- I was going to suggest something like that. Merida used to do the same thing with her pen; to deter her I would reach to scoop her up. She hates being picked up, so I figured if she’s willing to put up with me picking her up, sure! she can come out! But she wasn’t okay with it/can’t read minds to know how easy it would have been to get what she wanted. Haha. So she would hop away and leave the pen alone, and learned that making a ruckus didn’t get her freedom (the hands-free way she wanted) or food.
