My rex, Phoenix, turns 8 in December. He is not active at all. He mostly just chills either in his little grass house or his litter box. He has one of those 8-panel playpens. His sister, a 2-year-old Dutch named Triforce, has a nice-ish 36″ cage. She gets out of it a lot, and actually likes it, but she is very active, so I would rather she be able to get exercise all the time, rather than just when I let her out. So, I was thinking about getting one of those 11-panel playpens. I feel kind of guilty buying her a bigger cage, but I just think one that large would go to waste on my old boy, since he isn’t active. Though, I wonder if he’d become more active if I got him a bigger pen. Thoughts?

Do you have any plans to bond them? That might actually increase his activity…

I think Beka is right – it might increase his activity if you bond them, assuming both are fixed.

Probably what I would do is buy it, you can just clean the cages at any time and switch them. And I would also, if you don’t have it already, buy a ton of toys to try to get him to just get out and play with them. Though he might like a bigger pen and might possibly get more active… Also that space could be used for more toys to encourage him to play with them.
