I am getting really worried about having my babies neutered next week. I know that being boys it shouldn’t be too much of a big deal but I just am so worried. One of my bunnies is really nervous so I’m worried that he will be even more scared after getting neutered. Or will it help to calm him down?

I had two boys neutered 6 weeks ago. One is easy going (Tofu), the other pretty nervous (Butterscotch). Tofu did great, but Butterscotch had some complications due to dehydration after the neuter. He would not eat or drink before the surgery while he was at the vet, and seemed pretty scared afterwards- and when he is nervous, he won’t even eat treats (he’s funny like that…).

I would recommend you drop him off at the vet as close as possible to his scheduled surgery time – you can ask your vet when he needs to be there- and pick him up as soon as he is ready to go afterwards.

I would also ask your get if he can give him fluids during the surgery, that way if he takes a while to start am drinking again- he won’t get dehydrated.

Having said that, most neuters are simple procedures with No complications- odds are your boys will probably do great!

          Good luck!

I’m sure your boys will be fine. Ask your vet about pain meds, in case your boys need it. Most boys are eating within a few hours of going home after surgery. I’m sure your boy won’t be any more nervousness afterwards, although it will take him a little while to get over the stress of being at the vet. I’m sure they will be back to normal in a couple of days.
