Hey ya’ll! Its been awhile, but I hope everyone is well! I am going to be working on bonding another bunn to my almost one year old bunn this weekend. Any tips as to what I can try?? I plan on taking them into my bathroom where the floor is slippery first, then add food. I am bringing the second bunn home in Spike’s carrier so he can get used to his smell. They are also going to be housed next to each other. Any other thoughts or ideas??

This is a link to the Bonding section of Bunny Info., listed in the green banner above.
In addition to this great info., you can also do a search of the read-only posts throughout the Bonding section to get an idea of what others have done with success, and of problems they’ve faced and advice they’ve received. It’s a great way to start now, and ask more specific questions as they come up later on.
Good luck! (And post pix, please.)

I THINK everything went ok. Derby is a bit older than Spike, so I dont think he was ready for Spike’s “spunk!!” I put them in the laundry basket together off an on all day Saturday and had them rest seperately in between. I also used my bathroom floor as a hang out area. Spike will go up to Derby and nudge him or lightly nip, but there was no fighting…but Derby ran away almost every time. When they were in the basket together, they were fine.I housed them next to each other and there was no fighting through the bars, but there sure were a lot of poops!! (he he he, I expected that!!) Yesterday I spent quite a few hours with them in my foster’s pen so they could be in more nuetral territory and be on carpet. Spike would go up to Derby and do his nudgy thing and Derby would run away. I think Spike just wants to play or snuggle, but Derby isnt ready for him yet. I plan on housing them seperately for a week so they can get used to the others sounds, etc, but still have a place to go to relax. I will put them in my foster’s pen, with me sitting in there, so they can get used to each other. After a week, I will see how they are doing and move them closer together. Is Derby’s reaction to my little man normal, or does it sound hopeless?? I just dont know…they is the first time i’m actually attempting to bond. I’m also thinking that Derby’s scared reaction might be to his tooth troubles…he has a slight spur that is going to be looked at and ground down this Wednesday. After that, he will be coming back to me so I can try again with Spike. Any thoughts or ideas as to what I can try? I only have a few places that are neutral because Spike basically has run of the house. They are both male 3 pound Hotot’s so I dont worry too much about one hurting the other, but I do make sure to watch them at all times.
