        Hi

I’m thinking about letting Lacey have free roam of my bedroom all the time. She is a super sweet angel who never chews or pees outside of her cage (although if her litter isn’t pristine she will go in her hay pile) I plan to keep her cage and just leave it open. I’m just not sure how to make the transition and am a little worried she might randomly develop bad habits(witch I’m sure is just paranoia). she is already 7 she has a timid personality so even if the cage is open she would probably spend half her time inside lol. my room is pretty bun proof just in case but is there a way to do this or should I just jump into it and just start leaving the door open? any advice would be great Thanks!

I would just open the door and tempt her out with some treats, so she knows she is allowed to come out. Once she is out, wait quietly and see what she does. It may take a while for her to get used to free roam, but bunnies really do love the freedom.

sorry forgot to say that she already gets time out of her cage she usually comes out when I offer her playtime. its getting her to stay out for more than 30min to an 1hr that seems to be the problem. yesterday I left the door open almost all day and she refused to come out unless I was in the room once she hoped back in the other time I hung out with her for about 30min till she decided she wanted to go back. she lives in an 6×2 c&c just gave her more room had been in 4×2 so even though she has a fair amount of space I want her to take advantage of all the space I’m offering. the plus side, I realized that even though she is timid she actually must be pretty comfortable with me if she only comes out when I’m there.

Some bunnies just don’t like coming out all the time. Bella (one of my bunnies) has free range of the whole house, but she almost never comes out unless a person is in the room, but she goes mad if she is locked up, so she has free range. Bunnies sleep a lot during the day, and are most active near dawn and dusk, mabye she comes out more before you get up and after you go to bed???

Thanks, at least I know its not weird behavior. Right now I’ve been closing her cage when I go to bed just because I want to take it slow I’m also a little worried I would step on or kick her in the dark and traumatize her or worse. I suppose I just need to be patient and try to spend more time with her so she will come out more. maybe I’ll buy a night light and start leaving it open at night than she can get a little more time out wile I’m sleeping.
