My rabbits are due to be neutered on Tuesday so if this is a hormonal problem then that’s fine, but does that cause them to nip us? They come along and groom me but then randomly nip me mid way through a lick. One of them has also taken to climbing on my chest, then digging it and nipping my boobs! My boyfriend clearly finds it amusing but I’d like to know why he’s doing it! The only times they’ve ever nipped in the past is if you’re  trying to block them from getting somewhere they want to go.

Hmmm. Could be hormonal, so if it is then there’s no worries there!
Is it possible they just want your attention?
I guess you’ll find out if its hormonal or not soon enough

Biting can definitely be hormonal along with any kind of agression. Is he hurting when he does it? My bun sometimes touches me with his teeth for a second when he’s licking me but it’s so soft and gentle I couldn’t even construe it as nipping, I think it’s just part of the grooming. If he’s hurting try and let out a little shriek when he does it, that will make him realise he’s causing pain.
As for the digging, the thing that worked for me when Rufus was digging on my clothes is just gently holding his front paws every time he dug. He eventually tired of it.
Now that I think about it his digging on people has completely stopped since he was neutered so fingers crossed it works for you too!

They tend to do it when i’m giving them attention though so I don’t think it’s that.

It doesn’t seem to be aggressive exactly, it feels like someone pinched you. It doesn’t leave a mark or draw blood or anything but it does make it less easy to relax whilst stroking them for fear of getting a nip! But I did wonder if it’s part of grooming as they do it mostly when they’re licking me. I’ll try the shrieking thing and see if that helps.

I’ll try holding their paws when they dig on me too. They seem to learn pretty quickly so fingers crossed that helps.

Like you both say anyway, if it’s hormonal then that’s fine since it can be solved fairly soon. Thanks for the advice! And excellent name choice, one of mine is called Rufus too!

My nearly a year old bun Panda was just spayed a week and a half ago and has sarted the digging at my clothes behavior.  She loves to snuggle up close and give and get kisses but has never wanted to be in my lap or be picked up.  Suddenly she is digging at my top when I sit on the floor.  I tried to push her away since it seemed aggressive but she would just come right back.  Finally I boosted her into my lap by her rear end and it seems like that is what she wants.  She snuggles right down. I'm guessing it is for extra attention.   I don't like the scratching but I love that she wants to be in my lap now.  Next step – to be able to pick her up and carry her from one room to another when necessary.  🙂
