Background – I’ve been trying to re-train my bunnies to use their litter box consistently.  After trying to contain them to a smaller area in the man cave with the Xpen – Baxter would rebel by peeing/pooing  EVERYWHERE in their contained space.  So we decided to give them a break, and not use the Xpen, and just lock them up in the man-cave as usual.  Well – all of a sudden, their litter box habits became pretty close to impeccable.  We were so pleased.

Fast forward 4 days, I clean up their space, give them dinner, and go out for the evening.  My husband was also gone.  Return 3 hours later, to find pee/poo EVERYWHERE on the linoleum!    They weren’t even locked up.

        Questions:

        1) Could my buns HATE the smell of vinegar? And feel a need to cover it up with his pee/poo?  I did notice this morning, that Baxter did  pee/poo immediately after I cleaned with vinegar/water solution.

        2)  Since they’re not usually home alone in the evening  - could they have been scared + rebelling with marking everything with their pee/poo?

Not sure which is more likely.  We’re thinking of using the XPen again tonight.  These boys (especially Baxter) can be so frustrating at times.

        Appreciate your thoughts as always.

It might be that they hate the smell of vinegar and feel the need to cover it. My bun seems to like it and always tries to drink the vinegar water before I wip it up but he’s a total weirdo.
Maybe try clearing up with just water next time. That way it will be clean but still have a slight smell and they might not feel the need to mark so much?
