Hey everyone!! I am the proud owner of a 7ish month old black bunny named Cosmo. She is just darling and full of personality. We have been butting heads lately because she has developed this habit of chewing cords..

Cosmo has already destroyed 2 phone chargers, my desk lamp, a living room lamp, and I no longer have cable in my room thanks to her. I put hot sauce on all of the cords in my apartment and it seems to have worked when it comes to her chewing the wires, but I still need to give her some things that she can chew. I have bought her so many chew toys from the pet store and she won’t touch them. She’ll chew on pine cones and toilet/paper towel rolls that I give her, and I’ve been putting timothy hay in them for a little bit of added entertainment.

Any ideas of what I can give her to chew and play with? She seems to like human things, especially reciepts and clothing price tags.

Since she’s still young (under a year) you might find that this behavior lessens as she gets older, although some rabbits always retain that natural instinct to chew on cords and assorted “no-no” items…

Honestly, you can give her whatever toys you would like to, but if she’s drawn to cords, she’s going to continue to seek them out. So re-focusing your attention on cord covers and bunny-proofing is the direction to head right now.

Is she penned up when you are not supervising her? How many rooms does she have access to for exercise time?

Also, since she is over 6 months old, I am assuming she is already spayed. When was she spayed? It can sometimes take 1-2 months for the destructive behavior to diminish.

There are many items my bun loves to chew but put them right next to a wire, and the wire will get it each time. Wires are just too irresistible (and perhaps so are any other rubber items)! My wires not only have cord covers, but are also blocked off.

It’s not that your bun is attracted to human things, those items you mentioned are paper based. Some buns like phone books for that reason. Mine chewer prefers willow, popcscle sticks dipped in apple juice, apple sticks, and just plain cardboard box which is not only used as a hidey place but also for the occasional nibble.
