After a tough battle, Jo-Jo passed away 4 days after her spay.
She was a funny little girl and I’ll never forgive myself for all the pain she endured. Thank you to all of you here who sent good vibes and offered excellent advice. You are all very kind. My 11 yr old wants another bun, but my heart hurts too much right now to even think about it…

Cheri, I am so sorry to hear your sad news. We all do our best and what’s right for our bunny’s welfare throughout their lives, but we never really know what will happen.Sometimes a procedure has complications, or is just too much for their little bodies to handle. I’m sorry you and your child had to suffer along with her.

Please excuse me, but I am going to move your post to the Rainbow Bridge section. It’s where we post about our losses, and our friends and members know that you are grieving there, so are prepared to share your loss with you when they see a new post.

I am so sick reading this right now… I am so, so sorry. I don’t understand what could have happened. I haven’t been on BB much since Thursday morning, so I missed that she wasn’t doing well (before I assumed it was just the normal “first 24 hours not eating post-spay” thing). This just goes to show that sometimes these things happen, even with a vet in the house! I am just so sorry this happened to you… :o(

Don’t rush into anything right now. Please allow yourself time to grieve. Your child is old enough to reason with… explain to him (I think you have a son, right?) that just like people, animals are not “replaceable”. Each is an individual and deserves respect in life and after passing. This isn’t accomplished by running out and getting another immediately. Give it time. You need to heal before you can think of moving on.

Big hugs for you, Cheri. You’re in my thoughts.

              Binky free, Jo-Jo…

(This thread will probably be relocated to the Rainbow Bridge section within the next few days, so if you come back to check and don’t see it in Q&A, look in the other section.)

I know. No one ever wants to have to start a thread here. When my boy passed this summer, I was incredibly thankful to Pam for starting a thread on my behalf b/c I just could not bring myself to do it.

                  We’re here for you.

I’m so very sorry. My heart is very sad to see this post. Please don’t feel bad, you got her spayed because it is the best thing for a female bunny. She was obviously very loved.

Oh no, Cheri, I am so so sorry. I know we had all been praying that this wouldn’t happen.
At least you can know that you did absolutely everything you could, and that she was in the best possible hands at home with her family.

                            Thinking of you.

I’m so sorry to hear about Jo-jo I was lurking in your threads to see how things turned out. I had almost the EXACT same thing happen when I had Korra, my female lop spayed months ago. I was really routing for Jo-Jo because I know how it feels to watch them suffer and not be able to do a thing. It took awhile, but I eventually got another lop, Moogle, who is actually Korra’s little brother. I am sorry you lost your precious bun, and I hope that in time it will hurt less. She was very beautiful and had such a loving mom.

Cheri you have my heart felt sympathies, … such a shock with the grief. Please remember that not only were you loving and looking after her (no matter how unexpectedly tragic the results) but she had a happy life in a loving home, … remember all the good days that came before the last few. It was a good life even if it was far too short.

Different people have different ways of healing. Of course Beka is right, one loving wonderful companion can Never replace another, but for me at least I have not been able to heal properly until that dreadful emptiness had someone to help fill it, help ease the pain and grief. After losing my rabbit this past spring I only felt whole again when my new furry little ones were rustling about munching hay. I still feel the loss, (I won’t go into that), but it would have been so much worse without them. So if you do want to give your love and care to someone new you’ll know when you are ready.

You and your family are in my thoughts! You and the right furry one will find each other at the right moment, long as you are looking. God bless.
