Hi everyone, I’ve searched this forum as well as doing a quick google search on the matter, but can’t seem to find a definitive answer! So my bunny, Beans, is about 4 months old now, and for the past maybe 3 weeks, he’s been doing this thing which I can only describe as rhythmic vibrating of his hind legs from time to time. It kind of shakes his whole cage gently when it happens, and it goes for about 5 counts.. I’m not sure what’s going on but I know for sure he’s not cold or uncomfortable in any way. And it’s definitely not thumping. He is not yet neutered, if that counts for anything. Anyone have experience with this?

I can’t quite picture what you’re describing. Can you snatch a little video of it when he does it and post a link to it?
If you need to get him neutered, you probably should take him to the vet for a check up and to schedule his appointment with that. Ask your vet what it is, and be sure to have his legs examined.

Sometimes my bunny will shake the front paws just before or after cleaning her face. It’s pretty quick. Check his floor to be sure there isn’t anything sticky on it he’s trying to get off his back paws. Also, when they scratch with a back paw, it is very fast. It may be scratching a spot that’s hard to reach.

It may be a silly question, but could he be stretching? My buns vibrate a little when they stretch. Heck – I do too!

Thanks for your replies RabbitPam and FuzzyButtLover. I’ve watched him when he does it, he just kind of sits there and looks like he might be pushing his back legs down and shaking them. I don’t think he’s scratching because his feet never leave the ground. He might be stretching.. But like it said, it’s very rhythmic! I’ll try to record a video in time next time he does it and post a link! It’s quite bizarre lol.

A video would be very helpful then. Hopefully it’s just a quirk of his and not something serious. I’ll try to keep a closer eye on our buns tonight to see if they do it too and we just hadn’t noticed before.

Leopold shakes sometimes when he stretches, especially if he gets on his tippy toes.

Hey guys! I finally got SOME of this activity on video (my phone takes forever to gear up to shoot a video so it's been hard!). I guess my sudden movements and the sound from the camera disturbed him a bit so he's not doing it at timed intervals as usual in the vid, but hopefully you can all see what I've been talking about! Please share your thoughts as to what he may be doing!

Hmm, almost looks like a cecal is coming out. I say that because at the end he goes for his rear.

I’ll keep an eye on him and see whether he goes for his bum after every time he does this. Maybe he’s just got a strange way of passing them. Thanks for the input LBJ10!

It is a little weird isn’t it! I agree with LBJ also because it looks like he is concentrating so hard as well!

Rufus, yes, he seems very focused doesn’t he?

One of mine did this today, I found this because I was trying to find out as well, I know my boy bunny thumps his foot when he wants attention but my girl doesn’t like attention really, but it was the same, like her legs were vibrating or something?

My boy has been doing this lately. And sometimes it seems like he’ll slam his butt towards the ground afterwards before he goes for his rear like he dropped a cecotroph. It’s weird! And my other bun never does it. I hope it’s just a quirk. These are my first buns and I’m so paranoid about health issues!

                                  Hi BunnysaurusRex

If it is like what the bunny in the video does, Ive seen my lop do this sometimes also. It’s almost like a hiccup but at their hind end.   Perhaps its just from a sensation they get when the cecatrophs are descending…
