I have linoleum floors and unfortunately my bunny doesn't have access to carpet. Though I have some carpet squares for her, I want to give her more space to roam once she is fully litter trained and spayed.  She actually doesn't mind the floors at all and likes to slip and slide. She also seems to avoid the carpets when I put them down…or at least isn't that interested in playing on them.  I am just worried about her joints and back.  Does anyone else have experience with slippery floors and their buns? Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

That is good question which, unfortunately, I don’t have the answer to. Most people use linoleum on the bottom of xpens and nic condos, and that is quite recommended. I think that as long as the rabbit doesn’t have arthritis, shows no sign of soreness in the back/hip area, and has a soft place to rest, I think it is fine if they enjoy sliding.

Starsky has a combo of rugs, lino and timber flooring…. He finished off a mad zoomie session the other night by sliding Tom Cruise ala Risky Business style under the day bed. Up on his little back legs, sideways looking like all he needed was the sunnies, business shirt and hair brush microphone.

One of mine is ok with slick floors, and the other won’t walk on them unless it’s a very small section. I found large cheap area rugs at Bed Bath and Beyond that I used to line their room and give them more traction. I do think it’s important for bunnies to have access to some carpeted area or large rug to run around on, because it’s hard to do zoomies on a slick floor, but for day to day hopping around I don’t think it matters one way or another.
