My flemmie, Jo-Jo was spayed today. Since it was done at my hubby’s vet practice, and hubby had a half day today, Jo came home with him almost immediately after the surgery. When she got home, rather than try to pull her out of the cat carrier, I simply put it on the floor next to her cage, opened the door and gently petted her woozy widdle head. After 20 minutes or so she seemed to wake up enough to know she wanted to be out of the carrier and made a pathetic attempt to kind of “seal flop” out onto the floor and tried to flop / roll toward her cage. This, of course, was HEARTBREAKING, so I gently scooped her up and plunked her onto her doggy bed in her cage. She pretty much passed out on her face like a drunk. (See pic). I let her sleep it off. This was at 1:30. It’s now 7:50 and, though she has changed positions into a kind of loose meatloaf, she hasn’t left her bed yet.
I put a plate of wet greens next to her bed, which she sniffed, but didn’t eat, so I put a raisin ( her bunny crack!) to her lips and she ate it but did not want another. Doc gave her sub-q fluids and pain meds before she came home, and hub will give her a pain med injection soon, but I just feel so bad for her. She’s clearly in a great deal of pain, has her belly shaved and a really big incision. (Doc said she has a really big uterus, whatever that means).

Will keep my binky friends posted on her progress.

aww poor jo-jo hope she feels better soon !! I read online that it is good to tempt the bunny with her favorite treats and a lot of greens. Also , i read that you can give her mushed up pellets through a syringe if she is not willing to eat.

              Thanks for the wishes, guys!
Will try and tempt her again after she gets her next pain shot. Have syringes for food & water at the ready.

                Awwwwww!

Just like humans… She may be feeling icky because of the pain meds also. You know how they can give you an upset tummy, and make you feel woozy.

Hope the darling gets to feeling better soon.

Vibes to your baby. Females do take awhile to recover after a spay especially with the anesthesia and heavy duty pain meds. Most likely she won’t eat tonight and will just want to be quiet.

Awww poor dear-Sending vibes. See how she is tomorrow, but for now don’t panic, keep things quiet and let her come around. Girls have a harder time than boys. It was a long time ago, but when Kahlua was spayed I think it was about three days for her to get back to herself.

Well, she pooped overnight, but has not touched her water that I can tell. She DID eat a very small slice of banana that I offered her this morning before turning her back to me and giving me the cold bunny butt. (I can tell she is SO mad at me!). Will keep enticing… She has both a water bottle and bowl, wet veggies etc all within easy reach, so we’ll see how it goes…

Poop is good… So is banana nibbling. It’s only just 24 hrs it might be another couple of hours before she is interested in real food. Keep up the smorgasbord and hopefully hunger will overcome grumpiness.

                            Usually works for me, Roberta!

Thanks for the good wishes, Miss Dashie!

Poor little girl. You have to expect them to not feel well after, it is a major surgery after all. When Olivia came home, that night, I slept in her condo with her, I thought she was going to die but she was back to normal within a few days.

                              ((((Jo-Jo))))))

LPT – She looked so bad last night that I made hubby check her before me this morning to be sure she was alive. :-/

Hope she feels better soon. Those first two days are sooooo stressful. I just remember sitting on the floor practically sobbing, pulling out my phone to call the vet when she finally took a nibble of her veggies… 90% sure she only ate it to get me to leave her alone but whatever.
Good luck, try to stay calm and a speedy recovery to poor Jo-Jo…

She nibbled hay and drank a TON of water!!
(This, of course, after I smeared a little baby food banana mush on her lips!)

Came downstairs a little while ago (I work from home) and Jo-Jo was lying at the bottom of the stairs! That’s about 12 feet away from her cage! She had to go up a step, out of her cage door, down the ramp and cross the room to the stairs. Quite a workout after major surgery.
Drank but still not eating much… Hopefully dinner time greens will tempt her. I feel better now and am confident she’ll be back to wrestling me for my banana in no time! Thanks for all the wishes !

Glad to hear she’s doing better!!!

It must have been the banana.
