My darling Beaumont bunny died about a month ago. He was bonded to Parsnip. They had been together for 6.5 years. At first her beahavior didn’t change much but over the last several weeks it is clear she is very deprssed.

It’s hard because since we got them she was always top bunn. She is very particular and has never liked being pet. she would only let us pet  her occasionally and usually it was only when Beaumont was getting pets. They were both from the wild so neither were very snuggly.

Lately she only hangs out in her bunny condo, usually in the back corner of it. She’s free run (except at night) but won’t go anywhere else. When Beaumont first died we set up a little makeshift home for her in our bedroom so she could run around their at night and we could be close to her. She would always leave during the day and hop back to her condo.

I don’t know what to do for her. She’s had poopy butt the last few weeks also and we’ve been really careful with her foods. She’s eating lots of hay. My thought is that Beaumont was cleaning her butt and now that he’s dead it just gets a little gunky. She thumps when I get near her, and hides.

I was hoping the cats would take her in but they still seem indifferent.

I just don’t know what to do, any help would be so appreciated!

Give her extra attention, even if it’s just sitting near and she hides. Just like when we lose our friends, you just have to ride out the grieving process. Everyone, and everybun, will have their own process and time. When the time is right (enough grieving and acceptance), you may think about getting her another friend. Buns will have a special bond with each other that no other animal can mimic.
