I have two neutered male bunnies (one is 8 months & the other is a year old) that have been successfully bonded. I’m thinking of adding a third, but would like to know everyone’s thought on this. I have done some research, and I am stumped. One of my main concerns is that one of the buns will be left out, so to speak. Also, if this is okay to do, do I go with a female because I have the two males? This is just a thought, and would like to have ample feedback before making a decision. Thank you ALL in advance

Why exactly are you thinking of getting a third?

I have 3, two males and one female. Had two bonded first, a male and female, and recently added a male. The first two still has a special bond and the two boys also have their own special bond, but for mine, 3 is far better than 2. I got a third because of the dynamics with the first two – My female is very independent, opinionated, and when she doesn’t get groomed when she demands it, all hell breaks loose. Her Husbun just doesn’t understand and refuses..The third balanced out this dynamic and took it all into a more positive direction.

My feeling would be that if your current two is great together and there are completely no issues, to just keep it at two. You can also do several dates and see what the behavior is like with a third. The dynamics will change with a third.

              Hey there!

I have a bonded five-some and it is the GREATEST. I absolutely adore watching them interact and mingle between each other and with so many in the group their dynamics are always changing.

With this being said – there are some things you should DEFINITELY consider before attempting to add in a third.
              1. Do you have the space/time/energy to accommodate and care for three separate bunnies if they don’t bond and it ends up hurting the relationship between your already bonded duo? Or do you have the time/space to accommodate a separate one if the two don’t accept the third?
              2. If you get a third bunny, make sure it’s because it’s what YOU want. Bonding can be a very, very stressful process. Having bonded a trio, a fourth, and then a fifth – I can tell you sometimes it really takes a lot of work, is incredibly stressful for everyone involved, and can just be downright depressing when it’s not going positively and you can’t get past the bumps so really make sure that’s what you are ready and prepared for!
              3. Do you have the TIME to bond? Bonding can take anywhere from a couple of days, a month, or even many months and you have to be prepared for all of these possibilities. I am a FIRM believer that any bunnies are bondable but sometimes it can be very difficult and frustrating to push your way through and continue no matter what happens. So be ready for any bonding stresses to come your way. With that being said, there are a few of us on here who have a lot of experience and ideas to offer when it comes to bonding… and we are ALWAYS willing to help others out as we know how sometimes you need not only advice but emotional support as well. (Believe me, sometimes it really can feel like it’s never going to happen.)

Hoped the info helped! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful information @tanlover14. I bonded my two males, and thank goodness, there wasn’t a single fight, or any aggression, just mounting. They are now in love each other They both were adopted from our local Humane Society, and it’s one of the BEST things I’ve ever done. I love them so much, and I’m sure that I’m even a little more crazy about them because of what they’ve been though in their short little lives. They are spoiled, and my husband and kid’s tease me ALL the time I was just considering adding another, but want to weigh out all the options of course. I have considered everything you’ve mentioned, but just not sure I want to take the chance of hurting the bond between my two boys. I also feel as if I have all their little quirks figured out, where they need their litter boxes, etc. Ugh! Just not sure… lol. However, thanks so much, I really do appreciate it. If I have any questions, I will surely ask you
