Hello. I have just become the owner of a beautiful Netherland dwarf, her name is daisy and she is just over 3 months old. I got her on Sunday and I’m completely in love anyway I was hoping some of you could shed some light on a little situation I have with her. When I collected her from the breeder I was given a small bag of food that Daisy has been eating there and she advised me to get “Burgess excell” food and to start to ween her off the food she has given me and onto the burgess. Well I started this a couple of days ago puttin the burgess into the bottom of the food bowl. Daisy ate the food on top and left the burgess. So for the last 2 days I’ve decided to either mix the 2 foods together or put the burgess on top of the other food. Well my little cherub has decided that she is going to tip her bowl over and is not eating the burgess excell. Does anyone have any tips on what I should do. I’m concerned if I just give her the burgess she won’t eat. I decided to give her a carrot today too and she turned her nose up and hasn’t touched it. If anyone could help I’d appreciate it. Thank u

Lots of baby bunny foods that the breeders use have a stronger smell that entices babies to eat, and the new stuff probably smells and tastes different, so bun is having a little bun tantrum about it. It’s perfectly normal. Keep adding the new food (is it for juvenile buns? They need that til about 6 or 7 months, then switch to adult food). Do you also have alfalfa hay? Does bun eat that? You may eventually have to just use straight new food in a “if they’re hungry, they’ll eat” approach. Of course, if there is a days long all out refusal to eat the pellets, you may have to try a different brand.

          Good luck!

She def is havin a bunny strop! she has such a character already. Well I’m nearly out of the other food so she will hav to get used to the new stuff lol. She has eaten some of the carrot after all (which I’m pleased about!) I just brought a large bag of hay from pets at home and she is eating that. I no the broader said they like peanuts too so will hav to research what peanuts they like so I can add some to her food. Thank you for ur advice.

No peanuts! Nuts are not good for rabbits. Lots of hay though – they need that :~)

Sarita and Cheri answered your question but I figured I’d throw out some diet info.

The recommended diet for a baby bunny is unlimited plain pellets (no seeds, nuts, or fruit), unlimited hay, and water. Since she’s over 3 months you could slowly introduce bunny safe leafy greens. Only 1 new leafy green should be introduced every 3 days in small quantities (1/2 ounce or so) to make sure they don’t have a bad reaction.

Here are some great links about bunny diet:
