I would really like to be able to take my rabbit outside for a little while to play. I used to take her out all the time and play with her. I had an X-pen that I used for outside but now its part of her inside habitat. So, I don’t really have anything at the moment for her to go out in. She really liked playing and exploring outside. I only have about 12 NIC cubes leftover from a little bunny project That’s not really enough for the size I’m wanting. It would be great if the pen was larger than the X-Pen so its easier for me to get in too. I have all kinds of supplies to work with since I live on a horse farm. Any creative and possibly inexpensive ideas? I would prefer building instead of buying so I can make it the way I want. Thanks in advance!

Some of our members have created rabbit runs, that are protected but long and designed to be safe and fun for their bunnies. As you know, we are a House Rabbit Org. so we don’t generally feel that a bunny who is given sufficient play time and exercise indoors needs to go outside.
The first problem is pesticides on the ground and grass outdoors. Your area may be more protected if it’s very large, and you know what you (don’t) use, but it’s still something to be aware of due to airborne chemicals.
Predators can spot an unprotected bunny from very high up or from bushes. You won’t be fast enough to save a bunny from a predator intent on harm. So a covered run, even with a screen, is safer.
I suggest you do a search in the Habitats section for runs and you can see some posts about how members built them. There’s a lot of good info. Just please don’t reply to any that are older than about a month, as they are now for Read Only. thanks.
