I have 2 neutered males, both are fairly easy going.  Finian is 8 months old and was neutered approx 2 weeks ago, and Tigger is approximately 1 year, and had been neutered by his previous owners. We decided to adopt Tigger a few days ago, and after several lessons together, Finian is constantly trying to mount Tigger. There has been no aggression, fighting, etc. Will the mounting stop or what is the best way to deal with a situation like this? Any and all information would be much appreciated.

I am new to this forum, so please let me know if I’m not doing something correctly

I would give it another two weeks for the hormones to wear off – it can take up to a month. And if he’s the one showing the dominance it may be due to those.

Whenever he’s mounting, only let him do it for a few seconds and then gently push him off.  Sometimes the continual mounting can agitate the other bunny.  What is Tiggers response to this?

          And welcome to BB!

I was thinking the same thing about the hormones. Yes, it is him that’s doing the mounting. Tigger doesn’t seem too bothered by it, he will try to move after it’s gone on for a bit, but thankfully no fighting. Is this usually something that will get better with time? I hope….

Thank you for the info. I appreciate it

Mounting isn’t a bad thing necessarily, it’s also a show of dominance, and sometimes of affection or excitement. Some rabbit pairs always mount each other, sometimes it’s one bunny doing the mounting. As long as it’s not causing fights or chasing, and they are humping the “right way” (both facing the same direction, not one bunny humping the other’s head), there’s no danger in leaving them be. You can’t watch them 24/7 forever, so you’re not always going to be able to intervene.

Are they living together yet, or are they still in the bonding session stage? It is recommended to wait until 4 weeks post-neuter, but if you’ve already started and they are getting along for the most part, I don’t think I would stop now. Just keep the sessions supervised for at least the next couple weeks.

Thanks for the info. They are still in the bonding process, and only allowed to visit each other when I’m present but I figure after a couple weeks, maybe Finian’s hormones will have calmed down a bit, or at least I’m hoping so. Tigger doesn’t show any aggression from Finian mounting, but I feel bad for Tigger as he just lays there, or will occasionally try and move away, and Finian follows in hot pursuit! I’m just so happy that there’s been no aggression

You are right to be happy! It sounds like they are getting on very well, especially so soon after Finian being neutered!
