OMG, you will not believe what the neighbors were throwing out. A perfectly good toddler slide! I asked her if it was free and she said I could just take it. So I lugged it across the street and it is now sitting on the back patio. I need to clean it up before I bring it in the house.

Anyway, do you think the buns will like it? What can I do to make it more bunny friendly? I was going to cover the slide with carpet so it would act as a ramp. The buns use the dog’s ramp to get on the couch all the time, so I figured they would use this. There are steps on one side that seem awfully steep though. Should I take those off? Or cover them with carpet too?

Any recommendations for how to cover it in carpet? It is made entirely of plastic. I don’t want to staple it. Glue doesn’t seem like a good idea. Hmm…

Also, should I try to cage in the platform with NIC panels? The platform is about 2 feet off the ground, I guess about as high as the couch. There is a “wall” maybe 6 inches tall that sort of boxes in the platform, but I didn’t know if that was enough. It has a roof on it too. Should I keep that part?

        So many possibilities!

Oh wow my bun would love that, I’m afraid the only thing I could think of would be gluing the carpet on and leaving it to sun dry/air out. I would take the steps out, they do look a tad steep.

I think the roof is good, my bun loves having something over his head, it makes him feel safe. And I think the walls don’t need to be boxed in. Wow so many points to cover,

Yes, great find! VELCRO IS YOUR FRIEND!

Muffin – Good point about the steps.

Manic – Like stick on velcro?

I was thinking maybe getting some stick on carpet squares. You can cut those, right?

Manic’s idea was good. I think velcro would work pretty good.

Stick on carpet would also work well, and I do believe you can cut them. But I’m not 100% sure.

I know you don’t want to staple it but what if you used an electric drill and nailed down the carpet?

I’d also suggest leaving on the stairs (unless they cause problems with your buns) and just carpeting them as well.

Yay! *binky binky* good score LBJ
                    Hope the boys love it!

I would check all the nooks and crannies for spiders and the likes. Insects love getting in there.

If you want to make the ramp less steep, prop up the base on a low box of some sort.

Peel and stick carpet or vinyl would help with traction. For me, I’d want a washable option because mine tend to pee on new stuff!
You could glue horizontal slats (wood) up the slide with a hot glue gun. The glue doesn’t smell and removes cleanly if its not working out.

I’d keep the roof & see how they like it. Most like the feeling of something overhead. Plus you can use it to hang blankets over to create a cosy feel sometimes. I bet they’ll like hanging out underneath the platform too.

I would put cage wire around the sides that don’t have the slide or the stairs. Maybe use carpet tiles to carpet the top and slide. Not sure about the stairs as they might be too narrow for a bunny to hop up them.

For attaching things I would use a drill and screws. Screws make it easier to replace or change things later.

Yes, I was thinking stick on velcro for the slide and stitch on for the carpet side. Stick on carpet squares can be cut, but I was thinking velcro would be the easiest if needed to be cleaned regularly. However, if I were to go the drill route, I’d use bolts and washers instead of screws, so no pointy ends underneath. I also like the idea of propping up the stairs to make them less steep. And I also agree, I’d use the wire grids on those two sides. I’m kinda envious, though I would have no place for that in my home, unless I moved the hubby out into the shed…. LOL

Jersey – Yes, it is sitting outside right now. I want to wash it off but it has been so freaking hot. It disassembles, so I will take it apart and clean everything.
I like the blanket “tent” idea.

MD and Manic – I thought about screws or bolts. They would need to be long though since the slide is fairly thick and hollow on the inside. I can ask my husband though.

Manic – Haha! My husband thought I was insane when I said I was going to grab it for the buns. They have their own room though, so there is room for some rabbit “furniture”.

Hmm, I was thinking. Instead of boxing it in with NIC grids, maybe I could just position the platform in the corner. Would it be safe enough to just have it up against the wall? I don’t think they would try to hop off, but I don’t want them to accidentally fall either.

Oh and yes, I was planning on covering the platform itself in carpet too. Maybe the stairs can stay, I just worry they are too steep. The way the stairs are attached doesn’t allow you to tilt them up.

You should turn it into a tiki hut and serve carrot cocktails.

Maybe you can attach a piece of carpet just going down the stairs too.. like the slide. They’d probably still be able to scamper up it that way and if you were to position it in the corner, both the slide and stairs could be covered in case they decide to get a little crazy and fall off.

Manic – Yeah, that was what I was thinking. I’ll have to measure to see if there is enough room in the corner for it. It would be nice if they were “boxed” in.

Jersey – Haha! Make that banana cocktails. Mine don’t care too much for carrots.

That’s awesome! If I had the money to buy and the room to store, I would love to buy my buns one of those little play houses they sell at Toys R Us. Good luck fixing it up! We will need pics!

Okay so I just spent over an hour cleaning this thing and I’m still not done! There was a bunch of stinky gunk down where the poles go into the platform. You can’t pull them out. Oh no, can’t be that easy. The poles are attached to the feet on the bottom and you actually have to pound them through the holes in the platform with a rubber mallet. Agh! Took me forever, but I think I got all of that stuff cleaned up. I just need to do the slide and stairs and roof. Those aren’t as dirty, but I was just done after all that. LOL

Oh, I forgot. We went to the big box store. You can’t buy stick-on carpet square individually. You have to buy the whole box, which is too much. The cheapest was around $60 for a box. Yikes!

They have carpet tape though. I thought maybe we could tape the carpet on, which would be somewhat reversible if we wanted to replace the carpet.
