         Hi!

I have a 14 year old mini Rex and just recently she seems to be limping and when she’s sitting in one place she only stands on one paw.  The weird thing is it didn’t seem to bother her when she was doing her best to run…until today.  When she’s in her space and she’s moving around she started to make these sounds that aren’t like anything I’ve heard from her before its kind of a cross between the grunt she makes when she’s upset and the happy sound she makes when she’s content.  Usually when something is wrong with her she shuts down completely and stops eating, drinking etc so I really don’t if is is something I should be worried about.  Sorry for my ramble on lol I’m new here and not quite sure how this all works.

          Hello!

It’s alright, you didn’t ramble and sometimes you just need to ask questions about rabbit care.

I am concerned about your bunnies paw, it is possible that your bunny has a splinter, but It could be something even worse like a broken paw. Have you checked her nails? If one of them broke her paw would be in pain. Since your bunny is limping and avoiding using it’s paw it is most likely a pretty bad injury and I STRONGLY ADVISE GOING TO A VET ASAP.

For the moment try to make her habitat as comfortable as possible, and look for anything that could have injured her paw.

          Good Luck!

             Thanks for the response!

i checked all of her paws, one of her nails fell off a few months ago and it didn’t bother her at All and the vet said it was okay at her last checkup.  I don’t think it’s broken because when she runs around she puts all her weight on it like normal…she only seems to favour her other paw when she’s in a sitting position.

              Hi Bunners,
Like we humans bunnies bodies tend to wear out a bit as they get older…
It could well be some arthritis, has your vet checked for that ? It would explain why it only bothers her when she is static. Same with the noise, it would pay to have her vet checked to insure it is not the onset of any respiratory issues or possibly even dental changes….
Check her hocks to make sure that there is no damage to the bottom of her feet as well.

I’m going to ditto, Roberta. My first thought with a bunny that age would be arthritis. No way to tell unless she is seen by a vet, however. When a bunny starts acting strange, it’s best to not ignore it, even more so with an older bunny.
