I am new to this site and a new bunny owner! My bunny is 6 weeks old and is a Rex. I have him set up in a cage with food, water, carrots, chew toys and an igloo he can sleep or hide in. I let him run around my room and explore. He has come up to me a few times to sniff me. He lets me pet him but doesn’t like to be held. I am letting him get adjusted and used to his environment. Am I doing everything right? Will he grow to like me? I want him to be comfortable around me. Any tips on how to get him adjusted?

I would remove the carrots for now. Especially since he is too young to be away from momma and carrots are quite sugary and can upsets his tummy. And when you say food, are they plain pellets? Or do they have little extra bits in them? It’s always best to get them the plain pellets and they should have unlimited amount of hay with his age he can have alfalfa or Timothy and other grass hays. I would personally provide both.

              Welcome to Binky Bunny.

The best thing you can do with a new bunny, regardless of age, is give him time to adjust. Handle as little as possible and spend lots of time at his level and let him come to you. Most bunnies do not like to be held. I only hold my bunnies when necessary, like to transport to grooming area. Most bunnies enjoy attention at ground level when they are comfortable with their surroundings.

I suggest you read over some of the info under the “Bunny Care” section here on BB. You will find everything you need to know about nutrition, etc.
