         Hi everyone

My little Wesley seems to be having a problem with his ears. He is constantly shaking his head, scratching his ears, pulling them down to groom them. When looking on the inside of his ears, he has these small, brown and white flakes that rub off easily. I’m not quite sure what this is, when I search ear mites online, it is nothing that extreme.

Strangely, this problem has just shown up within a day or two. I just took him in for a checkup a few days ago and while I told the vet I’d found little flaky patches on his skin, it was coupled with a scratch and she seemed to think it was just scabby skin from the scratch healing. When she asked if he had been scratching his ears, I had said no, because at the time, he hadn’t. Until now!

I am also a little worried because we recently have had a bit of a fruit/house fly problem in our kitchen, and the baby flies have found their way upstairs into the bunnies’ room. Last night I thoroughly cleaned out their cage and litter box, wiped everything down and mopped the floor.

Otherwise Wesley is very active and happy, running around, eating, drinking, and pooping like a happy bun.

I’ve attached a picture of one of his ears. Thank you all so much for your help

Is there that brown colour deeper down in his ear? Possible the stuff near the top rubs off easily because its debris from his cleaning further down.
The pictures you see online are usually extreme cases left untreated too long. If Wesley has got ear mites, it’s early stages and won’t be much trouble to treat.

If he was recently seen, you might be able to just call the vet to report developments and pick up a treatment without him having to go back in. I use Revolution if I suspect mites. I used it on a foster lop once and it worked fantastic!
