        Hello BinkyBunny members!

My sister took our bunny into the vet today to get her teeth checked (she has a history of molar spurs). The vet tried to snap a piece of her spur off, but ended up jabbing my baby in somewhere deep in her mouth… she was bleeding out to her lips!!!… ((

My sis didn’t ask about this jab or any after-care from the vet. I am just afraid that she’ll get an infection… and from the blood, it sounds like a deep cut!! Please, let me know if you have any after care advice?? Or if you had this experience?
We received some pain meds, that’s all…

PS some background info: Baby is a 6 year old mini lop. Shortly after, she went through anethesia to get her molars filed. The vet is specialized for rabbits. And bunny has spurs possibly because she refuses to eat hay (we’ve tried everything), but she also seems to have an underlying, still unknown dental issue that may have made it difficult for her to grind hay (she has black/brown running up her front teeth.. it started as yellow stains, don’t know what caused it.Vet  say her teeth are worn down to the gums. We’ve been to 2 rabbit vets… and they think it is aging or genetic…

An antibiotic would probably be a good precaution. Your vet should allow a free recheck really. So this happened under anaesthetic this time?

Have they ever done X-rays of her teeth? The front ones sound like they could be diseased.

Yea I am worried about an infection. Xray is a good idea. Nope not under anaesthetic, bunny was held so that the spur could get snipped off.. Then went under anaesthetic after.
I think my sis didn’t ask the vet about the bleeding, assuming that the vet has everything under control. Perhaps she is gonna wait and see, and then call the vet if something is wrong with bunny? It’s really difficult to tell if she gets an infection inside her mouth…. hopefully not though.

I would call the vet, even though your sister didn’t get the information at the time, they did see your rabbit and it’s totally ok to phone them and ask questions and discuss your concerns. They should have no trouble giving you info over the phone, and like Jersey said, they should allow a free recheck, as the recheck is for a concern over their procedure, and not a recheck of an existing condition.

I think you’re correct. Spurs growing would have more to do with possible dental disease and/or malocclusion and her not eating hay is a result of this. It just means spurs are harder to keep under control now because she doesn’t chew hay.

Im not sure I understand. Did they put her under after to continue work on spurs?

                I hope she’s doing okay.
