It didn’t work so. I got my buns from a friend/breeder. There are about 150 bunnies in a barn in very tiny small wire cages, they get this horrible like rabbit food that comes in dog bags and never get hay or out of cage time. How do I go on about changing this?

You are going to be limited in what you can do, just because of the sheer volume of rabbits. It sounds like they are being fed the cheapest, “filler” food possible, again… Most likely due to cost with such a high number of rabbits.

What is going on with the rabbits? Are they being bred as pets, for show, or with the intention of “using” them in some way? The reason I ask is not to upset you (or other members), but because in some locations there are different “minimum requirements” for animals based on what their purpose is.

I think at this point, your only option would be to get the local authorities involved. Even if they investigate and find the conditions to be “minimally” acceptable, there may be a limit on the number of rabbits allowed on the property.

Any friendship that is there needs to come secondary to the welfare of those animals. Are you willing to file a complaint with animal control?

The rabbits are being bred for show. She doesn’t give a poop about the non show quality though. Some of her rabbits are messed up and have like their two back legs in front of them and she says she either puts them to sleep or they die within 6 months. There is poopeverywhere! I am underage so I could bring a friend then report her. I’m in the USA Virginia if that’s allowed.

What about your parents? Can they help you with this. It sounds like they aren’t being humanely treated to me.

Well my mom doesn’t really understand bunny care and my dad is an exterminator. But my mom loves the bunnies

I see. Well, you don’t need to understand rabbit care in order to understand what is and isn’t acceptable treatment. I don’t raise cows, or pigs, or chickens, but I think if I saw neglect and inappropriate conditions, I would recognize it as being an issue. I agree that speaking with your parents seems to be your best option right now.

Is there an age requirement for filing a complaint? If you call the non-emergency line here, they only as for a phone number in case the officer has questions about where the animal(s) is located.
