This evening I was petting my bunny and noticed a black bug on his ear…and it jumped off and onto me and I’m pretty positive it was a flea (I’ve had dogs in the past). This is the only one I have found so far and looked for more and couldnt seem to find them. Where did it come from? I live in a townhome on the second floor and there are no other animals. and hes an inside rabbit. :/ Could it have been the hay? Do you recommend treating him for fleas even though I just saw one? Thanks

If you saw one, there are probably others or maybe eggs. Do NOT use frontline, but ask a rabbit savvy vet what to use. Again, do not use frontline (fatal to buns). You can check his fur for more if he is light colored, just run your hand along him against the way the fur grows and if you see black dirt or fleas, treatment is needed.

They can come from anywhere. Grass in the warm months often harbor them and they can attach to clothes and hitch a ride. Washing bed clothes and vacuuming may prevent an outbreak of fleas if that one laid eggs anywhere.

I second Stickerbunny, if there’s one there’s more or at the very least some eggs. They have possibly travelled in on dirt with your shoes for example.
I swear by Revolution Puppy and Kitten for mine. It works quickly and I have found it easy to regulate the dosage.

Most vets and pet shops in Australia will sell single ampules but I find it cheaper to buy the pack and they usually have quite a lengthy expiry date.

There probably are other fleas, and not just that one. Besides or in addition to Revolution or Advantage, you can make a homemade flea trap. It probably won’t kill them all, but it will kill some, and it will help you to know when the infestation is over – if you no longer see fleas in the trap. Here are the instructions:
