I’m going to be travelling to a different province in Canada to visit my grandma and some friends for 2 weeks, near the beginning of August. My grandma kept telling me to just bring my bunny along, and that I could use one of her friend’s big rabbit cages, but the car ride can be around 16 – 20 hours, which I think would be stressful for any bunny. Another option would be to just leave her at home, but it’s only my dad who will be here still. He’s already going to be feeding my guinea pigs, and I bet I could get him to feed my rabbit, but I know he couldn’t supervise her for time out of her cage. I don’t think it’s too fair to keep a rabbit in its cage without much exercise for 2 weeks.

I don’t know anyone who could take care of her while I’m gone other than my dad. I’m really having a hard time figuring this out. Any suggestions would be great!

Well, it may not be ideal for her to not have out time but it’s only for 2 weeks and sometimes you just have to do this. Would your dad be willing to clean the cage and litter box as well? If so then that would be the best option really.

I would not take her with you. That is too long of a car trip for something that isn’t permanent. If you were MOVING and it was a long drive, I would say go for it b/c it’s only one way, but round trip for only two weeks is just too much.

I wouldn’t worry about her not getting let out for a couple weeks. It’s just temporary, and if your father isn’t going to be attentive of her when she is out, it’s better that she be contained in a safe place where she can’t get hurt or damage things.

What kind of housing is she in? Can you extend her space with an xpen attached to her cage or condo while you are gone? This way she can stretch her legs, but will still be contained?

Yeah, I knew taking her would be out of the question; I would not put her through such a long car ride. She is in a 4 ft x 2 ft c&c cage and I keep her litterbox on her loft (her cage size and loft are the same as this picture; http://www.flickr.com/photos/littleredbunny/3008642014/ ) The only things that need to be cleaned within her cage are her litterbox and the towels that I put on her loft, since she is practically fully litter trained. I’m sure I could get my dad to clean out her litterbox at least a few times while I’m away. Do you think that’s alright?

I think that’s fine – you may want to consider enlarging her cage by maybe one cube where it’s only 2 cubes if that is possible but really it’s fine.
