Remi almost always pees in his litter box (maybe an accident once every two weeks on the floor) but he poops all over his xpen. He was neutered about 2.5 weeks ago. Any suggestions for reinforcing good habits? Currently when I clean his box I deposit the stray poops in there hoping he gets the hint. He is being housed in an xpen. Do I need to temporarily decrease his space? I’d like for him to have more out of cage time but need to get a better handle on litter training. Suggestions welcome!

His hormones may need a little more time to settle down as this sounds like territorial marking. In the meantime, make sure his litter box is a happy place. Make sure it’s big enough for him to lay down in and that there is plenty of hay on top of the litter. You want to encourage him to spend time there.

Thank you! I put hay in the box as well as have his hay feeder hanging above it. He also gets his greens in there and an occasional treat.
