Just over three weeks ago, I lost my first bunny, Bunsen.

He was only three years old, and we had hoped to have many more years with him.

I loved him so much. The first thing I did in the morning, upon entering the kitchen, was go over to his house, lift the lid and give him raisins in exchange for kisses. He would often butt me with his head as if to say “hey, Mom, enough of this mushy stuff. Where’s my snack?” He was such a sweetheart, and a good bunny. He never gave us any trouble with litter training, or being fussy about his food or hay. We had him since he was two months old and watched him grow up into a very proud buck.

I think something was wrong and we didn’t know it. I have read many people’s accounts of how they lost their bunny…and they always say it’s so hard to tell if the bunny is ill. He had been to the vet for a Revolution treatment for mites a week before, and even she did not see anything unusual. He was eating and drinking, etc. right up till he died. It might have been a heart attack. My husband was with him and tried to save him, but he could not.

I still cry every day because I miss him so very much. We are trying to adopt a pair of females from a shelter. I know they will never replace him, of course.

I just hope I can be a good mom to our new babies. I’m afraid something will go wrong. So many things can happen to them at so many ages. I’m scared and nervous.

Thank you for listening to me.

I’m so very sorry to hear about the passing of Bunsen. He was obviously very well loved.

              Thank you so much.

I have his picture in my dining room where I can say goodnight to it everyday.
