So about two days ago Ox was doing his 500s and bashed his foot against his cage when he was jumping out of it. I kept an eye on his and his foot for a few hours as after he hit his foot he was hiding it under him as well as flicking it about. But only a half hour or so after he hit his foot he was back to normal.

Yesterday he also seemed fine, he was acting completely normal. Even did a ton of 500 like a mad man.

Even this morning, he was acting fine. Then he went and hid behind my sister’s toy box. I went to check on him when he hadn’t come back out after 45 minutes and almost had a heart attack when I saw a ton of blood splatters all against the wall and floor. Once he saw me he came out of hiding but was worrying over his foot; licking it and flicking it.

After quite a bit of bribery I managed to get a good look at his foot and saw that one of his nails was just a bloody stump. I’m sure this happened because of when he hit his foot two days ago but I’m not sure why it’s taken so long to start bleeding. The only thing I can think of is that he damaged his nail when he hit it against his cage, possibly damaged it more yesterday during his 500s, and worried over the damaged nail so much that it just came off.

Anyway, is there anything I can put on it or do that won’t be harmful if digested? I managed to wipe away some of the crusted up blood with a warm paper towel but other than that I’m not sure what to do.

My pug did that once. I brought her to the vet and they cut it way down, cleaned it and gave me antibiotics. I would still call the vet and ask them what to do, considering the nail is already off.

Blossom broke one of hers a few months ago. I cleaned it and it has been fine. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it’s not infected.
