I have three 10 week rabbits. Two are brother and sister holland lops from the same litter. One is a male (Oliver) and the other is his sister (Fawn) and the other is a netherland dwarf/lion head mix who is also 10 weeks and a female (Winter). Well, I just caught Oliver ontop of his sister, Fawn. He was humping her. Could this result in them breeding? I am going to have all three fixed but they are obviously still too young. Oliver doesn’t have testicles yet. Should I seperate them now or later? I definetly don’t want any litters!

They are getting close, I would separate now to be on the safe side.

Separate them to be safe. You will have to before they are old enough to spay/neuter anyways, since it is 4-6 months and by then they could have already mated. Once they are altered you can work on bonding them.

They need to be separated. Not only will an oops litter be stressful on you but but very stressful on the little girl bunny!

Thanks! I’m going to add another level to their c&c cage for him. Do you think I can have all three okay together a couple of times a day if I’m there to supervise? I had him by himself all night and he looked so lonely! I feel so bad for him.

You aren’t going to know exactly when she has matured enough to become pregnant. If you have them running around together, he could very easily run up to her and start doing the deed before you have time to react. If she is receptive, it can only take a second or two for it to be too late (e.g. pulling him off). So I don’t think it is a good idea. You don’t want her to accidentally become pregnant.

What about setting them up so their cages are close to each other? You can’t have them right up against each other, you need a couple inches of space. Otherwise you run the risk of them doing it through the bars.

No, it’s far to risky. I separated my 2 and they were fine and are bonded again.
I just spent lots of time with each so they didn’t get lonely. Suri was sad for a few days but she was fine. Temporary seperation is much better than oops litters. They could fight or mate if let together at anytime. You should keep them seperate until a.month after neutering/spaying and then bond when their hormones are calmer. Pregnancies in very young rabbits is very stressful as their bodies are not yet fully developed.

No, no interaction at all can be allowed. Not even the bars being close enough that they can touch through them. And be sure when they are out exercising the baby gates or whatever are secure, because they will try to break whatever barrier down to get to each other. It only takes a couple of seconds for a male to impregnate a female, there will be no time to react before she is pregnant.
