I just found a good size bail of hay on Craig’s List for only $4.25!! It says that it has clover, timothy,  orchard grass, and fescue mix. Is this all right?

I am not familiar with fescue. I personally stick with safe sources from manufacturers I trust. You can always trust Oxbow (I know-some bags have glitches, but so do other hays). My absolute favorite for the cost are the mini bales sold here in the binky bunny store. These are carefully harvested and packaged with BB taking great care to be knowledgeable about the crops each year. They last a long time and are easy to store. I am so leary of any ads on craigslist these days that I just wouldn’t trust my bunny or myself with what I might find.

I get my hay from a local feed store. They’re trustworthy and the hay is high quality. If you’re worried about cost I would try to find some local feed stores. I would probably avoid Craigslist unless you know the people involved. For me, I feel like a store has more accountability to quality than a person I likely couldn’t find again if there was something wrong with the hay.

I spend $13 on a 30-40 lb bale. I can’t remember how much it weighs exactly. I wouldn’t buy by the bale though until you know it’s a type of hay your bunnies like and will eat a bunch of. If you can find a feed store you can usually buy by the flake too.

My mini bale bag (it’s paper, so stays pretty fresh) lasts me about 3 months at least. Maybe longer. It is compressed, so once you cut the strings it’s like a clown car – just keeps having more and more and more. I love it.

I haven’t tried the “Select…” brand you mentioned.
