After we move to our new apartment in August and get some money saved up we are going to build Caleb a proper bunny condo. His cage right now is a 3 cube length, 2 cube width and 1 cube high (he has never tried to jump out even when we have his favorite treats by the edge) but for his new cage I am going to make it fully enclosed just in case . So the new cage still has to fit on the table he already has so I’m thinking a 3 length, 2 cube width and then 4 cubes tall this way he can have a couple of levels to hang out in. I will stablize the cage on the table with some dowels attached to the cage and table so it’s stablized. Does this make sense? Also does anyone have any more ideas for this. Like I said we can’t build it until we move so this is just an idea at the time but I would love to hear thoughts about it and ideas

Also I wanted to add that Caleb is a digger so we were thinking of a sand box in the lower level of his cage where the tubs of this stuff are currently (we need to block everything off and add a step so he can get down and up) but we don’t know if it’s better for him to dig in sand or wood chips or something else….any suggestions? please

Is he going to stay on the table because of the possible new puppy?

I think it sounds like a good idea. Just make sure, like you said, it’s attached to the table so it won’t topple by accident. 4 cubes high might be pretty tall when it’s already on the table. 4 cubes high is about 4′ 8″. My condo/stacked cage is 4 high.

Maybe go 3 grids high? That would be 3′ 6″. I might make the second level in the middle, with a ramp up, and basically give him two whole floors. Like this but imagine it 3 grids high instead of 2:

I think there are people here with sandboxes and I’ve thought about making one for my bunnies. I think there are a couple concerns involved with them…. Here’s a post where people talk about them:

You could also fill a sand box type thing or box with shredded paper if you find sand to be too much of a worry/mess/whatever.

LOL i think I was a little too exuberant on my 4 cubes high thing, I’ll just do 3 and then build a ramp for both levels. Yes we want to keep his cage on the table due to puppy reasons, if all goes well the new addition will be here in october just in time for my birthday if he is a sable and white boy that is on the calmer side then he is ours by the sound of it (by the way he’s a rough collie). I think I’ll try shredded paper and cut up blankets because sand/dirt seem to have controversies for respiratory problems. thanks for the post, I don’t think he’ll pee on the paper because he has wood pellets as litter. He just dug on his blanket for a good 10 minutes he is always digging or else I wouldn’t even worry about the “sand” box. and it isn’t only in his cage he digs the carpet downstairs too so I know he’s a digger. We are thinking of making the bottom part of the table an “underground” dig place for him (remove the bins and panel it so the stuff won’t come out and he can’t escape) then put a ramp so he can get up and down. So it will be 4 levels just 3 levels up and 1 down he’s such a spoiled little bunny lol.
