I’ve decided to build Remi a NIC pen because, well, it sounds like fun! Right now he’s in an xpen but we are moving his habitat to a new room while some work is being done on our house and the xpen is a bit wide for the new space. A NIC condo seems like a nice way to customize his pen to the space we have available. He gets plenty of play time and isn’t much of an exercise bunny, he prefers to flop and rest. Anyway, I am overwhelmed with all of the options available. I am debating on size- how many cubes high and wide? I was leaning toward 4 cubes long by three cubes deep by two cubes tall. I’d like the ability to add a shelf to a second level but probably no higher as Remi isn’t much of a jumper. Any suggestions for a beginner? Post pics of your NIC homes for inspiration!

This is sunshines cage. I used 4 grids long by 2 grids wide and its 2 grids high I used 32 grids total. This makes her cage 56″ x 28″ which is plenty of room for her. My bunny also gets 3 hours outside of her cage daily now sometimes she doesn’t always come out. I called last week at a local carpet store and they had a roll of linoleium left over and gave it to me for free. So that now is on the bottom of her cage. My bedroom isn’t that large so this cage fits perfectly. I haven’t added a 2nd level so I am not sure about that. I know other cages have 2nd levels. This cage is actually really easy to clean. I fit in her cage so I take the vacuum hose and go in there and clean it then I wipe down the floor with a wet wash cloth and let it dry. Or on days I don’t clean it i take a little dirt devil works well. Hope this helps can’t wait to see pictures. I figured out the other day it only cost me around $40.00 to make this cage pretty cheap compared to other cages.

If you go 3 deep, are you putting a door in the back?
For cleaning, two deep (if no back door) is what I’d go with; I wouldn’t be able to reach 3 deep.

Here is our condo – but our boys are never locked up in there.  If they were – I’d add another NIC cube to the width, and another to the height. I aleady asked my husband to change the bottom left grid – so that it will swing open as well – to make cleaning, adding water/grain to this level easier.  Our tan bun (Boo) spends most of the afternoon napping in here.

We actually used both NIC cubes and Xpen grids on this condo.  We made up the plans as we went along 🙂

This is My NIC condo. I no longer use it as my rabbits now have a different free ranging set up, but I loved it when I did have it!
