So…my bunny loves Burgess herbage which is timothy hay with dandilion and marigold flowers. Currently though she is going through a bag of Burgess forage which I’m not sure is as good. She eats LOADS of it but I wonder if that’s cos it’s not nutritious enough? Should I only be feeding pure Timothy hay? Should I be mixing the forage and the herbage? I just thought hay was hay but now I’m not so sure….

Any advice would be gratefully received. x

I’m not familiar with forage and what it contains, but bunnies can certainly eat a variety of hay – Timothy, orchard, oat, etc. The Burgess herbage sounds like Oxbow Botanical hay, which is Timothy mixed with small quantities of dried flowers and herbs. That’s a perfectly good hay. Rabbits don’t have to be fed pure Timothy hay, although it’s fine if they are. I did see a Kaytee Timothy Hay that was filled with lots of carrot pieces, and they were rubbery to boot. That’s a mixture that you wouldn’t want to use, but the mixes with flowers and herbs should be fine.

Fantastic. Thanks so much. She’s almost through the forage now and going back to Timothy with marigold next.
