I have heard and read that tooth grinding means a bunny is in pain. Can it also mean they are upset? I have noticed it with Wooly. I will be doing something he is not happy about and he will grind his teeth while giving me “the stare”. He was doing it tonight when I was getting ready to groom him. He was sitting in my lap and he saw me reaching for the brush. I had not done anything to him yet. Suddenly he did some quick tooth grinds. They aren’t slow. They are quick and short, very deliberate. Does anyone else’s bunny do this?

Olivia has done tooth grinding when she is very stressed. A few times, during a bad shed, if it’s taking a long time to groom her, she gets stressed out and will tooth grind.

What sort of things cause him to grind his teeth?

It is mostly when I’m getting ready to groom him or cut his nails. The funny thing is he does it in anticipation of what is about the happen. Not when I’m actually doing the deed.

I did a google search and several sites that came up said they can do this when they are angry or scared. I will admit, grooming sessions are not always “nice”. LOL Part of the problem is I will get a good grooming in and then he will avoid me for awhile. So sometimes there are tangles that need to be gotten out.

maybe its the anticipation of being picked up? Both my bunnies do this if I’ve annoyed them, usually if I wake them up in the afternoon! They get so grumpy if their sleep is disturbed!

He is already being held when he does it. Actually, he is usually sitting in my lap as I fiddle with whatever instruments I need. I’m thinking it is probably out of anticipation. The second I am done and he is going back, he immediately starts looking for his treat (for being a good boy). So it can’t be THAT traumatizing, can it?

I think some bunnies are simply more dramatic than others. Momo chatters his teeth if I have to pick him up but he’ll be fine as soon as I put him down. Jet won’t do anything when I pick him up but when I put him down I get foot flicks and thumped at.

Is that some sort of spam?

Yes, that was spam. I deleted it. They try to be clever and look like they are offering advice while inserting a link. Like us bunny people are that stupid.

Just a heads up, guys, if you ever see Spam make sure to Alert the Forum Leaders. We like to catch and delete these buggers asap.
