DigDug’s most recent bag of food has small squares pieces of dried papaya and she will move the pellets out of the bowl to get to all the papaya pieces. I was wondering if dried papaya that comes in a bag like of tropical fruit would be good or bad for her. I haven’t actually tasted one of the pieces because of all it is all dusty with the pellet and grain dust but it sure seems like the same thing humans have.

        Thanks!!

If the pellet food you are buying has a bunch of “stuff” in it, then it isn’t a good pellet to be feeding. But, yes, dried papaya is okay for buns. You could buy it separately to offer as a treat.

Those mixed pelleted foods are not good for rabbits. I would get a plain pellet and buy papaya separately as an occasional treat.

She didn’t want the baby carrot offered to her yesterday (haven’t looked to see if she finally ate it or not) but my sons made her VERY happy with several items from the tropical fruit bag I had just bought.
The bags of food are 98% pellets, some timothy hay and several dozen squares of papaya and tiny pieces possibly of carrot. Dollar stores carry regular old rabbit/guinea pig/? food which is only the brown pellets and nothing else whereas the actual pet stores bags of pellets have other “goodies” in them.

Unfortunately, a lot of stuff sold in pet stores is not good for bunnies. They should have a plain pellet at the pet store though. Even plain pellets from brands that are “not as good” would be better than pellets with junk in them.

Kaytee’s Timothy Complete line is pretty good. Oxbow and American Pet Diner are also good.

As LBJ said, a lot of things marketed towards rabbits are not good for them. The mixed pellets are more appealing to humans but less healthy for rabbits. Kind of like eating McDonald’s everyday for every meal.

ZuPreem Nature’s Promise is also a pretty good timothy-based pellet, it’s what I fed before I started ordering Oxbow online. Easier to find in stores than Oxbow.

FYI: When I said brands that are “not as good”, I was thinking of brands like Kaytee. Like MD said, Kaytee’s Timothy Complete would be a better choice than what you’re currently feeding.
