Hey guys! I’m spamming the forum since adopting my first special needs bunny yesterday, Belle She is 16 weeks old, and is recovering from having her front right leg removed 3 weeks ago… so I am wondering when to book her in to be spayed! I have seen some people on here say 6 months, others saying 4 months … someone help! Aha thanks everyone

What a gorgeous little girl! I’m so happy you took this little beauty in!

As for spaying age, it really depends on the vet and when they feel most comfortable doing it. Some vets like to wait until 6 months to make sure they put on as much weight as possible before the surgery since it’s an invasive procedure, others are comfortable doing it at 4-5 months as long as the bunny has a good weight and is in prime health.

I had one done at 4 months AND one done at 6 months. I wouldn’t say either is better or worse. I would just talk to your vet and see what they are the most comfortable doing her at. That would be your best bet, in my opinion.

Btw, you need to post more pictures! She is just so gorgeous – I can’t get over it! Congrats!!!

I would wait 6 months to help her bones develop – that is the reasoning I believe to wait for the 6 month period. It has to do with estrogen and bone development.

I think waiting until 6 months for her might be a good idea since she only has 3 legs the extra time for bone development might be extra good for her. I would definitely talk it over with your vet.

Ah, yes! I forgot this was mentioned when Nora was spayed. The bone development with the estrogen. Seeing as how she only has three legs and was JUST put through the surgery not very long ago I would also wait.

She’s gorgeous! Since she is so young, you may find that as she grows, she really isn’t “special needs” at all. Animals who lose limbs early in life tend to lead very normal lives as it’s pretty much “all they know”.

I would also wait until about 6 months to spay. That’s the standard recommended age.

Thanks everyone! I would rather play it safe and wait until 6 months, I love her so much already I couldn’t bear to takr any unnecessary risks more photos on their way tomorrow I promise x
