I just took my rabbit in to get neutered this morning. I picked him up from the vet, and when I got home I put him directly in his cage. The vet/ vet techs left the bandage on his arm on from where the IV was…its the same material that we get wrapped around after giving blood. Needless to say he will not stand still or let me touch it to get it off. Jumped frantically out of his cage, and has now been under my bed for three hours. Away from food and water and wont cooperate. Im supposed to be giving him metacam and feeding him and I want the bandage off so he doesnt hop and I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. Im so overwhelmed. He wont cooperate.

The bandage won’t hurt him, just let him chill. He’s all disoriented and probably royally p.o.’d. He’ll come out soon… Or he may just “sleep it off” for a while. It’s very frustrating that you can’t tell him you’re trying to help.

Eventually he may pull the bandage off himself. I agree with CheriB – leave it be for now.

Better, thank you! I had some friends help coax him out from my bed and into his cage. After a few hours I was able to cut his bandage off no problem. At this point he will only eat vegetables and very little pellets but thats good enough for me. I do notice that heis babying his arm that had the bandage from the IV though…do you know if that is normal or to be expected?

                  Glad to hear he’s eating.

I’ve never noticed pain on the arm due to IV but I suspect it may be bruised and a bit sore. If it doesn’t go back to normal in a couple days, I would phone the vet and ask.

My boys didn’t express discomfort on the arm after their procedure either. Hope he feels better.
