So today when I was with my buns, Momo decided to flop down next to me and I noticed his breathing was a lot heavier than normal. It sounded kinda like a whistle. Then I realized he was sneezing a lot as well. I looked at his nose and noticed a little bit of green crusties.
My vet is about an hour away and is only in on Mondays and Thursdays. Should I take my bunny to the emergency vet? I’m not really sure how serious the sniffles are and how exactly it’s treated. I’m worried that I might make it worse by making him suffer the long drive to the vet. If anyone has any information on the sniffles, about how serious it is or how to help treat it please share!

ER vets should be used for emergencies only. They are typically not very versed in rabbit care. They can stabilize a rabbit that is not eating or is severely dehydrated, but they will tell you to follow up with your vet for treatment. Sniffles and discharge should be addressed soon, but doesn’t qualify as an emergency. Call the vet up tomorrow (your vet) and see if they can get you in Thursday or Monday.

Thank you for your reply. I just realize that they’re called the snuffles. That’s why my searches weren’t giving me very much. It looks like most owners were just told to give baytril. So hopefully I can just get her on the phone and see if she thinks I should start giving him some. Otherwise, I’ll have to wait until Monday. Also didn’t realize that it can be contagious. I’ll stop bonding for now.
