So tonight I was getting the buns out of the condo. Usually it’s easier to get Valentine out but tonight it was nearly impossible especially with my back being bad.  I finally got her out and put her in with Rascal in the playroom.  I noticed she nipped his butt and she has NEVER done that.  She is really acting out of character and it has me worried.  I offered her a small piece of a freeze dried (oxbow) strawberry…she took it…then I offered her another piece and she ran away. I went up to her and tried to get her to eat it but she was really reluctant so Rascal ate it.  So I picked her up and brought her to the couch and checked out her teeth and they look fine.  I felt her belly and it is not bloated.  I am thinking a trip to the vet ASAP is a must.  I know rabbits are good at hiding illness and when they act out of character they should be checked out.  For Valentine to refuse a strawberry treat is really strange because she eats EVERYTHING! Then when I went to take her back to the bedroom she was giving me kisses and she NEVER gives me kisses.  It has me worried.

Please keep her in your thoughts.

          How is she this morning?

It’s always a good idea to bring a bunny to the vet for a check up when you notice odd behavior. That said, how is she today? The first thing to watch for is her consumption of her regular meals (not treat fruits) and her poos. If she is eating her greens and hay and is regular in her litter pan, it’s less worrisome than if she has refused even more food. (In that case, vet asap.)

Strangely enough, she may be aware that you are in discomfort, and was being sweet to you. Rascal may not have smelled OK to her, or she may have wanted to be alone, or with you, and not in the mood for him then. I don’t usually talk anyone out of a vet visit, because the smallest thing we pick up on is often an indication that it’s warranted, but I am wondering how you both feel today and how the other things I mentioned are as of this morning.

Let us know what you decide to do. (And of course, if she is due for a vet check up, definitely take her anyway.)

Soooo, now both the bunnies aren’t eating. They are drinking a lot of water but not eating. They eat a little bit of hay but not enough. They left their pellet breakfast and that is REAAAALLY not normal. They go CRAZY for pellets and lick the dish clean pretty much. I am about to try veggies again to see if they want some. I have Critical Care here. Should I try giving them a little? Going to make a vet appointment!

Yes, do the critical care – it won’t hurt and it may help. Vibes for your sweeties…please keep us updated.

Maybe they are stressed because they sorta miss Marley. Even though they weren’t fully bonded Valentine actually liked him, correct? And Valentines stress probably stressed out Rascal too. Just a thought. I hope your buns feel better soon. Keep us updated

I think they are stressing about something I just am not sure what. I offered veggies and they ate some. Gave Critical Care to Valentine but have to figure out how to give it to Rascal since he won’t take it on his own. Also going to give them some infant gas drops.

The bunnies are feeling better now. They are eating, thank God! Must have just been stress or maybe they felt I was in pain or something.

I’m so happy they are doing better!

It’s so scary when they stop eating – Simba gave me a near mental breakdown those few weeks he was in stasis! I will keep watching for any odd activity though. Not to scare you at all, but Simba did it one night…started eating again… and then three nights later went into stasis and it took hours to get him to try anything! So watch closely and monitor their eating habits for a few days!

Thanks! I will definitely keep watching them closely.
