We just brought Remy home Saturday night and we are smitten. He loves to be held and cuddled and will flop next to you like a dog for some pets. He adores my 4 year old and follows him around everywhere. He really has the most perfect temperament except he’s a humper! He is one year old and came from a breeder. If I get him neutered will his personality chane drastically? We love that he is so friendly and affectionate, I’d hate for that to change. Also, with him being a year old is it possible that the humping might not go away after neutering? Thanks for any feedback!

Humping is a sign of sexual frustration and not neutering him will only increase that. Neutering him will keep calm and decrease any chance of aggression or spraying

Humping CAN be a sexual thing, or it can be a dominance thing. If he is doing it out of dominance, no neutering isn’t likely to fix it. If it’s out of sexual interest, yes it will. So it depends. And no, personality doesn’t change drastically.. Powder loved human attention, got neutered, acted up for a month under hormone surge and then went right back to flopping out asking for pets again.

How do I know if its sexual or dominance?

Well, what causes him to start humping? What is he humping?

Getting him neutered will not alter his personality, but the humping I can understand that Gizmo is like that he is so loving but is the same. He will be getting fixed after his dental surgery.

If he’s unneutered, it is likely hormonal. Dominance humping occurs more often when there are two rabbits competing for space, food, toys, or the litter box.

He sounds very frustrated. Once he is neutered, he will be able to relax and will be much more enjoyable as a family pet.

He humps people, lol. Our arms and legs. I scheduled his neuter for July 16 but am calling a different vet tomorrow to see if they might be able to do it sooner. Thanks everyone!!!

Yeah that is probably hormonal lol Stickers is spayed and female and humps sometimes though… she went to town on one of my boyfriends shirts he left in the floor one night. But, if he is after your arms and legs I would guess hormones.

Also, call back the vet where you have scheduled the neuter and ask if you can be put on a short list in case of cancellations. Someone else may cancel a procedure and they can fit him in sooner.

Oh good! Keep us posted on how he does! The boys are barely fazed by neutering… it really is a simple snip snip.

The second vet is a bit pricier than the first but I am eager to get it done as soon as possible. I will update! Good to know it is a relatively easy procedure.
