My English Lop Savannah has had a change lately that concerns me. All of a sudden, she’s been having a bottom soaked in urine, all the time. It’s always wet. This didn’t used to happen. Not only am I concerned for her comfort level, and what is causing this sudden change in her (her health, I mean). But also, it’s causing her to smell very bad like urine.

I know I’ve heard of wet bottoms before, and that it could be the sign of some issues. Her poop is fine, no changes there. Nothing has changed in her diet, she still gets lots of water, hay, 2-3 big heaping cups of fresh greens a day (she weighs 12 pounds), and a small amount of pelettes, sometimes a piece of fruit as a treat. Her litter boxes haven’t changed, either. Any ideas? Should I be worried?

She’s definitely still using her litterbox? Not peeing elsewhere and sitting in it?

If you can, try watch her when she pees to see if she’s lifting her tail up.

It sounds like she needs to be checked out. You can have the fur shaved away from her bottom too so the urine doesnt stay in contact with the skin. It looks awful but it will help keep her dry.

          How old is she?

          (((Savannah)))
I hope you can find out why it’s happening.

She is still using her litter box, I always see her in in and there’s definitely urine in all of them. I did just find a tiny bit of pee in one of the corners she likes to lounge in. She’s had a UTI before, but her bottom was never soaked in urine. I’m wondering why she isn’t cleaning herself off. She turns 2 in July, but I know that’s basically middle aged for English Lops because they only have an average of 5 years of a lifespan.

I’m going to call and make an appointment at her rabbit savy vet. Thanks for the good vibes! I hope it’s nothing serious…
