Lately Harry has been doing weird nesting behavior….I think? He will go to almost every corner in the house or an area where the floor meets the wall and start digging and then nipping and digging again. He will also find blankets and clothes and keep doing the same thing. He was neutered 2 weeks ago today and is behavior is completely new and I’m not really sure what it means. He’s also been licking everything ie shoes, walls, carpet, windows etc. He is still rubbing his chin on things but now it’s more licking. Any ideas what these things could indicate?

30 or so days after neuter the hormones are leveling out and fluctuating a bit. Hopefully it should settle down in another couple weeks.

Harley is BIG licker! He has an obsession with my microfiber couch and my silky pillow. He will also lick the ac vent. I think he likes the texture of them when he is doing it. He will literally sit there for an hour licking my pillow or couch if I let him. Actually, sometimes if I don’t feel like dealing with his antics with him digging in my carpet or something I will just put the pillow on the floor and let him lick away! It’s almost like giving in and letting a kid watch tv or play a video game so they will quiet down haha.

What he is doing isn’t nesting behavior at all. It’s actually what a lot of rabbits do and I would prevent him from digging into your carpet. They can do some damage. And when he nips at the carpet, stop him. Don’t want him ingesting any of the fibers as that could be bad.

He should settle down to his old self in a couple more weeks

We had a huge problem with him tearing up the carpet and have reprimanded him everytime but its occuring less often. We have tried distractions such as cardboard. Now its just digging at it and nipping at it without pulling the fibers out and then turns around and goes to sleep. We’ve had to cut off one area of the house since he was becoming aggreasive and territorial which become a problem so now he’s only allowed in the main living areas. I figured it was all the hormone change so I’m hoping it will die down a bit since I hate having to yell at him from digging just in case its him tearing it up for fun.

Not nesting behavior. Sounds like he just likes digging. Bindi does that in the corner of his condo.

Not nesting behavior at all. Sounds like a case of the post-neuter crazies with digging being his choice for “naughty” behavior. I would block off the digging spots completely so he can’t get to them. Put something heavy there like bricks or ceramic tile. Then wait for his hormones to level out.
