So…having been perfect at the litter box and having had the run of the upstairs we decided to teach the bunny to use stairs. Worked fine. Put litter box downstairs too…no problem. Bunny has run of whole house when we’re in and is in my study only when we’re out. In the study she has her plastic bottomed hutch with food, litter tray etc. It all seemed perfect until….

Bunny has discovered that the big piece of furniture in my sutdy is a sofa. Now she’s been on the sofas downstairs and that was all fine but whilst I was out at work today she dropped pellets and peed on my study sofa. ARGH! I really don’t want to go back to shutting her in the hutch whilst I’m at work. Any tips for stopping this marking behaviour? Tamariz is now about 14 weeks and has been neutered.

Any advice to save my lovely sofa gratefully received.

        Laura x

Sometimes a sofa is just too tempting. You’re going to have to block off the sofa while you are away, or lock him up

I can’t block off the sofa! It’s a three seater!

Maybe put stuff up on the sofa when you are getting ready to leave? Like a long sheet of slippery plastic might take away the urge to mark it. And it may even make him not like jumping up there in the first place..

Was thinking about putting the desk chair up there on it’s side. Want to try and avoid extra covers etc etc. Don’t want to change my entire house but… Oh dear. If she wasn’t so cute I’d be grumpy!

As NBO said, couches and beds are very tempting to rabbits. They love to pee on them!

Blocking it off or deterring her from getting on the couch in some other way is your best bet at preventing it.

Any good deterrent suggestions that don’t involve swathes of plastic!?! Sigh.

Haha, I don’t think you’ll like my couch blocking method. I have a large L shaped couch and I place rectangular laundry baskets on it, upside down, when I want to block it off. I bought a bunch of them from the dollar store specifically to block off my monster of the couch. It works well but it’s not “pretty”.

There aren’t any scent methods that I know about that will work. The only option is to just block off the couch or the entire room.

Thanks guys. Will maybe try the laundry basket option as could always store them under the sofa. What a minx! She’s fine downstairs!
