Watson used to have markings on his face like eyebrows and a dark nose too, along with some darker guard hairs on his back. Ever since he started shedding since he’s lived in the house all his markings are gone, except a tiny hint of color on his nose. Is this normal to have them change colors and lose all their markings this late in their lives? I miss his crazy eyebrows

I’ve heard of it happening with other animals with fur, they shed and then when the hair grows back it’s a lighter/darker color. It depends on how dark it is when the hair grows back

Color changing during a shed is pretty common.

This is my Helo. Orange as a baby and then a grey-ish/opal/agouti color as he got older.

(He’s even bigger and his color has changed to be a lot more even now)

That’s pretty drastic colour change on Helo. So adorable.

Olivia’s coat lightens and darkens slightly with shedding.

There was a Californian rabbit at the sanctuary where I volunteer, and he could look quite different at times. Sometimes he had a large black fur area aound his mouth and a lot of black on his ears, at other times he had only a small gray fur area around his mouth and just the tips of his ears were black or gray.
