My stupid boyfriend just told me he cut our bunny’s whiskers b/c they were getting really long and thought he was doing Nugget a favor.  Will he not be able to sense things anymore? I’m really freaked out  and also mad that anyone would dare use a pair of scissors around Nugget’s face!

Rex rabbis have naturally curly kinky whiskers which are a bit different from other rabbit’s whiskers…they should grow back. He’ll be fine I’m sure…not so sure if your boyfriend will be fine after this though :~)

I have had to trim my mini rex’s whiskers before. Since they are curly, Meadow had a couple that were actually irritating her eye because they had curled up. I noticed her eye kept tearing up and upon closer inspection, the whisker was the issue. Your bun will be fine.

But Nugget isn’t a Rex. I’m happy to hear that they’ll grow back but I’m sure he feels really weird right now without his long whiskers. Ugh, I will not forgive the bf for this!

Really, he looks so much like a Rex in his photo! Don’t be too hard on your boyfriend though – just explain it’s not necessary to do this usually.

While I’m definitely with you all the way about your boy friend, (not sure what would be left of anyone who did something similar in this house) I suspect that if they are even (same length on both sides) then he probably still feels balanced. I’d guess he’s lost a little sensitivity and probably a sort of depth perception, but expect he’ll adjust alright. Although I’m betting he’ll be very happy when they are full length again.

Sarita- lol, he does look like them but he doesn’t have the plush like fur coat that Rex breeds have, or the curly whiskers that I just learned about today. I’m convinced he’s half Belgian Hare and half Holland lop.

Grey Dove- Thank you for that information, I feel a lot better now. I’m fairly certain this won’t happen again.

You are very welcome, … and somehow I never doubted this would be a one time event! Please give him a little head rub for me and tell him he’s a brave bunny and going to be just fine even if he does feel a little odd right now.

I’m sure he will be fine. Some people shave their horses whisker’s completely off and they are fine. But bad bad boyfriend messing with bunny!

Whiskers will grow back. Sometimes whiskers fall out, so it’s only natural that they’ll come back. Plus, it’s inevitable that one gets broken at some point (this happened to my cat – quite funny!), so yeah, he’ll be fine. But they are a way to sense things, so just tell your boyfriend not to do it anymore.
