So the vet gave Bunny antibiotics for her lung disease and some diarrhea paste to prevent “poopy-butt” that she’s been getting lately. Anyways she’s taking the antibiotics no problem… But she refuses to take the paste. It’s packed in a seringe so you put it in her mouth and press on it but she spits it out! She also keeps her mouth shut. So any suggestions please?

Can you hide it in a little mashed banana or pumpkin ?

I did try that, but she detects the nasty paste and spits it out, then she eats the banana without it. She’s a clever one…

I have to give my bunny Benebac which has the consistency of Vaseline. He dislikes it. The way I do it is put the syringe in his mouth, on the side and towards the back and VERY slowly depress the gel into his mouth, leaving the syringe in for a second and then removing. He usually swallows it after. If you put it far back enough in the mouth, it’s hard to spit out, but be VERY careful not to put too much in the mouth at once. You don’t want bunny to gag or aspirate.

I would not do any sugary things like banana with antibiotics – that is what is going to cause stasis, not the medication.

I would recommend what LPT says.

Ah I see, I’ll try putting it further up her mouth. Thank you!
