Hi to All, I recently rescued an adult Cinnamon doe bunny from a friend of a friend.  My new pet’s name is Wabbit.  I think Wabbit was never really handled by her previous owner (who said she was “bitey”, though I think he was just approaching her wrong), so I am taking it slow with her even though I want to cuddle her all the time.  The last time I had a rabbit was in the mid-80s and things were very different then, so I am eager to learn more about the state of rabbit keeping these days.  If anyone can recommend a good thread(s) on gentling a skittish bunny, Wabbit and I would be very appreciative.  I’ll post a pic of her pretty face once her new playpen arrives, so I can snap one without bars in the way.

Hi Fuzzbuns, rabbits as a general rule dont like to be picked up and prefer all feet on the ground so thats a good starting point. I would start by sitting by her pen and reading a book until she comes to you for interaction. Give her treats to encourage interaction! When you start picking her up start with the real basics and make sure shes used to petting first. I even had to pet my buns tummys and chests to get them used to my hands being around them!
When your rabbit is ready (could be weeks could be hours) try half lifting her then putting her down gnetly and progress from there so she will eventually get used to being picked up.
It sounds like shes been mishandled which unfortionatly means that she may never like being picked up and you should only do so for health checks or transportation.
Time and bonding will help and maybe one day you may be lucky enough that she requests cuddles!
